...[Next Rated]: Iq Shotta

This week I’ll be bringing you up close and personal with a bubbling Reggae/Dancehall artist whom I have had the pleasure of working with as a media consultant and music video director.Iq Shotta whose real name is Jonas Martins is a Lagos state born Reggae/Dancehall singer. Shottaboy as he is fondly called by close friends and colleagues started making music at a very young age as a member of the junior choir in his church, he was the drummer of his choir group during those years.

The Cross River state Boki local government indigene began his music career professionally in 2010 and has gone on to record well over thirtyfive (35) songs, he has also done several collaborations with local and international artists alike. Shotta has worked with Austrian music producer, TOM HYPE of FOUR STAR FOUNDATION. The Austrian music producer produced some great tunes for him which includes ‘U-TURN’ featuring RYMZO, BENZMANand MALLAM SPICEY, Shotta also worked with Manchester city based Jamaican artist,PEPPERY on a song titled ‘Can’t Program Me’ which was also produced by TOM HYPE.

His songs have enjoyed airplay in countries the featured artists on his international collaborations are based and have so far generated revenue from online sales and streaming from digital music stores and streaming sites. Iq Shotta has a song titled‘Blaka’ which features BENZMAN and Grip Muzik’s ENDIA and was produced byCHOPSTIX. The video of Blaka was shot by ace music video director, Michael Azano ofM.A. Productions. Early this year, he also released another song, ‘She want Me’produced by SANDAZ BLAQ of Ghana, a reggae song with a blend of rap music, the video was also directed by Michael Azano. Iq Shotta just wrapped up production of the video to his new single, ‘Hold On’ which features Grip Muzik’s Young L, the song was produced by Killertunes.

Shotta makes his style of music appeal to all ages and class of people by making it outernational.

“You don’t have to be a Jamaican to love my music, it’s a sound that is loved by everyone”.

Asked where he would want his brand to be in five(5) years, he replied:

“The music must have been bigger than me and more young people would be given opportunities to shine using my brand as a medium to get their music out”.

Looking at Iq Shotta, his body of works, his style of music and his willingness to always make good music even if it’s quite difficult to break in to the mainstream makes him an artist to look out for. Ladies and gentlemen, Iq Shotta is this week’s Next Rated.
