Police officers show sharp-edged weapons recovered in Patiala, India, on April

New Delhi(CNN)An Indian police officer's hand was slashed off with a sword and six different officials were seriously harmed when they were assaulted while implementing coronavirus lockdown gauges in northern Punjab state on Sunday morning.

The cut off left hand of Harjit Singh, an associate sub auditor for Punjab Police, was later reattached to his wrist following about eight hours of medical procedure.

The assault occurred when a vehicle conveying seven men - who have a place with the minority Sikh warrior faction known as the Nihangs - was halted at a blockade outside a vegetable market in Patiala region, KBS Sidhu, a senior state government official, told CNN.

At the point when police approached the men for legitimate travel passes, one of them took out a sword and remove Singh's hand.

The harmed officials, one with sword wounds to his back, were taken to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh.

"I am glad to share that a 7 and a half hour long medical procedure has been effectively finished in PGI to fix the cut off wrist of ASI Harjeet Singh. I thank the whole group of specialists and care staff for their meticulous exertion. Wishing ASI Harjeet Singh a rapid recuperation," the state's main pastor Amarinder Singh tweeted.
