He was the former Ekiti state governor.
He secured the state's 2014 governorship race, and was inaugurated on 16 October 2014.
Fayose was also the governor from May 29, 2003 until October 16, 2006, but as a result of an impeachment, he could not complete his term.

In 2015, after beating APC's Dakuku Peterside in the April 11 gubernatorial elections, he became the governor of Rivers state.
