It’s hard to believe, but these cars were really made of wood, offering reduced weight, reduced carbon emissions, and a reduced cost in production.

Woodworking has allowed car enthusiasts to bring their creativity to the world, allowing them to grace our highways with a fabulous display of their creativity and passion. They’ve built cars and trucks that have broken the limitations of what it means to build a wooden car. Plus, they prove to the world that wooden cars can perform just as good as any of their metal brethren can.

Opel Transformed By Its Russian Owner
A Russian owner showed his love and desire to own a car made out of wood by painstakingly recreating his Opel with wooden parts. His result is amazingly brilliant and beautiful – we’d love him to refit our Honda Element. But obviously, should we be worried about termites eating our ride?

Isaac Cohen’s Wooden Car
Isaac Cohen has been performing a lot of woodwork for quite some time. He has built several wooden vehicles, but the one that catches our interest the most is his ‘Splinter’ that shines with a beautiful classy interior and a steering wheel, gear shift and car key holder all made from pieces of wood. Cohen doesn’t plan on selling his car anytime soon.

The Japanese Maniwa
It’s basically a modern chariot but without a horse. This wooden vehicle might pass for a convertible, uses the same steering as a motorbike, gullwing doors, can run up to 80 KM/HR, and the downside isn’t just its bland nature but the very uncomfortable seats and complete exposure to nature.

The car is low and artistically perfect. Morris used this masterpiece to sound his furniture trumpet and we’ve heard the call. The car manages 40 Km/Hr and would serve as a stepping stone for the car European car enthusiast.

The Tyrane II Sports Car
Although the Tyrane II Sports car was built by Friend Wood, a German Carpenter who used African mahogany to create his car, the vehicle is not for sale. Using methods similar to boatbuilding, Friend was able to make his 100 MPH Citroen engine car from strips of polished high-quality wooden strips. Friend Wood lived up to his name by making a Wood-en car.

In the city of Quebec, one particular woodworker with an immense love for building his own sports car can proudly lay claim to creating a low sporty ride that appears to be made just for minimalists. The car rocks a rear-mid engine and an Ipad for infotainment. It’ll be a thrill to watch this car run.

In Sussex, woodworkers and car lovers with only a small car frame and sweet design ideas got together to build a wooden car that is electrically powered. This EV is completely made of wood and comes with gullwing doors that open effortlessly. The interior is breathtaking and it fulfils all the promises of a modern EV.

The Achilles Car
This car was made in Vietnam from high quality imported wood and a BMW engine. it appears like a chariot car with a lot of intricate carvings of exotic animals that kept our gazes locked on the wooden mastery of Le Nguyen Khang, owner of Le Lumber. The car sells for $24,000.

Vasily Lazarenko’s Wooden Car
At a glance, the Lazarenko’s creation comes off as a beautiful nicely styled wooden car that was designed to play the roles of sedan and convertible all in one piece. Lazarenko fitted it with a 1981 Opel engine and it took him a year and six months to complete the vehicle. This car had a better appearance when viewed from the left side.

The U.S. Army’s Balsa Wood Composite Car
This vehicle was specifically designed to save the lives of our soldiers from road bombs and it only entered the scene after serious R&D. The U.S. Army developed Humvee weighs only a fraction of what a regular military truck weighs. Its body frame is made from a composite of balsa wood, foam, and fiberglass.

Istvan Puska’s Wood Car
When Istvan Puska was 51, the Hungarian farmer built a wooden car where the frames, fuel barrel, gears and, except the engine – which was taken from a 1972 Fiat 126 – the car was almost entirely made of wood. Istvan could transform mere wood into an actual car in the space of one winter. We can’t imagine what he could do in a year.

This mid-engine beauty boasts of speeds that surpass 240 MPH, powered by a powerful supercharged V8 engine. We can hardly wait to see it roll down the highway in all its wooden glory.
