Covid 19:Lagos to Embark on another Total lockdown


Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's latest message for Muslim and Christian faithfuls was that of Heartbreak, as those who were hoping to gather in their respective place of worship after the long stay away, on the Friday the 19th and Sunday the 21st of June 2020 as it applies the across the state, were dissapointed when he announced that the Lagos State Government had reversed it's decision, to allow all forms of public religious worship resume in the state, but was rather forced to suspend public religious worship in Lagos State indefinitely.


Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, explained to reporters during a press briefing at Alausa, Ikeja. The Governor said his administration had to reverse his earlier to allow public religious worship and placed an indefinite ban to curtail the rapid spread of the coronavirus in Lagos. The State Governor, said that the decision was inevitable, and was influenced by the rise in cases of the coronavirus pandemic in the state. Lagos state has recorded the highest number of coronavirus cases in the Nigeria, and in recent weeks the number of infected persons in Lagos State, has been on the rise, this trend has made the state government grow worrisome about the well being and safety of the people of Lagos state.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, told reporters that this decision was very necessary that this decision was necessary in-other to protect the people of Lagos State. In his speech he said:


 current rise of infections in the state has made the state government worrisome, which may make the state government consider another phase of total lockdown, because the total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Lagos State was recorded at 7461, as against a total of 17,148 cases in Nigeria, which is 43.5% , this has become very worrisome.

After assessing the situation the Governor, said the ban placed on Bars , Hotels, Event Centers, Cinemas and Parties (Public Merriment), will remain until further notice.


Sanwo-Olu stressed that his administration is determined to do everything within it's power to safeguard the health and well-being of Lagosians, but this can only work when the people of Lagos support the government and act responsibly, by not behaving in a manner that sabotages public health guidelines laid down.
