How to Spot a Good Man - Diamond Diepriye

I called him earlier that I was coming to have a hair cut and he said OK.

Got there later in the day and met like 10 people waiting to have a hair cut too. "Fide, what number am I now"?
Fide: Pointing to a man, aunty after that man na you, he called earlier before you did.
I looked around to take a seat, while trying to maintain social distancing. But he offered the swivel chair instead. I took my seat and waited like others. I don't like queues, I don't like waiting in the saloons but I really needed to cut my hair.

"Fide can I charge my phone"?
Him: yes Aunty, I could even on my hot spot for you if you don't mind.

The other customers are just looking at me, I'm not bothered, What do you expect being an only lady in the midst of 10 men waiting to have a hair cut? He kept stealing glances at me, I observe him from the mirror but it's nothing.

After a while, he called his boy and whispered something to him, the boy disappears and after a while reappears with two mars chocolate and handed them to him.
Fide: (Hands me the chocolate in return) Aunty take, my mommy says this helps a lot.

Me: Takes, the chocolate bars, and start munching without caution. Fide thank you.

I understood what he meant, So many men there didn't. But I kept wondering how a guy that age could know this much. After a while, he was done with the guy, then he turned to face the man he said called to book before me and begged him to allow me have my hair cut before him, surprisingly the man agreed.
.
I took the seat and he started cutting my hair.

Fide: Aunty, why you no call me come house, I for come cut your hair for house, you no need stress yourself commot come na.

Me: Fide, excerise is good for it also. But by the way how did you know?

Fide: Aunty, I'm the only boy in the midst of 10 girls. The stress on your face is very obvious, the eye bag and then the pimples. It must really be the painful one.
At this point, I'm short of words. My mind drifted to so many things, and his voice suddenly brings me back to our discussion.

Fide: Aunty, I hope you are not angry o?
Me: Why should I be?
Fide: Some women feels embarrassed talking about it
Me: Yes, because of the attitude of some men about it. It's a natural thing. And as far as i'm not stained in public I don't feel embarrassed about it.
Fide: So why didn't he come with you. This is a time he needs to be more caring and supporting.

Me: Fide, there is no him for now.
Him: Because you are very strict and too principled. It will only take someone in your intellectual level to be able to cope with you.

Me: Or someone that isn't obsessed with Patriarchy...

He laughs, and we talked about so many things more bothering men and women relationship in the society.

My hair cut session soon came to an end and I was glad it did. I paid him and added some tip. After all kindness begets kindness.
My saloon session was the best part of my yesterday. Yes, there are still good men out there who cares genuinely without wanting anything in return. A man like my barber.
